Fantastic local experience. Lots of games across generations, as well as select retro collectibles. Staff is ridiculously friendly and accommodating. My special needs son loves stopping in for a game, and the staff is always very welcoming and flexible. I recommend stopping by if you are into retro gaming.

Overhead/Business Model I don’t really support business like this This option acknowledges the reality of new retail pricing but contrasts it with better deals available elsewhere. "I recognize that the prices reflect their business costs and margins, but I personally feel that a lot of their electronics, especially their gaming consoles, are simply too expensive. I prefer to look for more reasonable prices and better deals on secondhand platforms like Marketplace or Kijiji."

Went in just to look around and ended up with a brand new sealed copy of Pokémon Sun for a really good price. Guy at the counter was super nice and reassured me that the U.A.E. copy of the game would work the same and as intended it works perfectly!

I first came to this Microplay in 2022. Overall, I have had decent experiences here. The prices are admittedly on the higher side for their retro games compared to the local competition as lots of other reviewers stated. However, they make up for this with the sales and promotions they often run. Staff is decent too. Not the most friendly I have dealt with but they get the job done. Selection is decent for newer generation consoles like Switch, PS5, PS4 etc. but their retro selection is not the best. Overall, I would recommend coming to Microplay if you are in the market for newer generation games, but for retro games I would stick with the better options in the Ottawa area. They lose a star simply for not having more expansive retro game inventory and the staff sometimes make me feel like I am bothering them. These are both easily improvable issues and I hope for them to work on these as I would love to boost my review to 5 stars. EDIT: Spoke with one of the owners on a more recent stop there. He explained how they do things and I got a much better understanding of their target demographic, priorities and how they acquire retro stock. It gave me a better understanding of how they operate and frankly my recent visits have been much better in terms of retro game selection and chatting with the staff. I can confidently give this place 5 stars as well now. Great stuff guys! Keep doing what you are doing!

Every time I go, I find some gem of a game for a reasonable price. It's so fun to come here, I haven't been excited to go to a game store like I am to go here since I was a kid.

My honest, unbiased experience with Microplay Pros: The lady working the counter was very knowledgeable and helpful, I called ahead before coming in to check if a specific game was in stock and she was able to set it aside for me Lots of stock of PS4/Xbox one games which you just don't see at any other gamestores in the city Unfortunately, that's where the pros end Cons: Terribly overpriced used games, in some cases even seeing used games going for their new price (I saw black ops 6 used going for 79.99) Horrible trade credit values, as an example I recently tried to trade in "Blur" for the Xbox 360, a game that typically goes for 40 dollars, and was surprised when they offered me $7. I am sympathetic towards the fact this is a small business, but a less than 1/5 trade value is ridiculous and isn't good business at all. Overall: I am willing to change my review if the business moves towards more reasonably priced used games, remember, people buy used games because they're supposed to be a good deal, not the same price as their new counterparts

Unfortunately they had a limited selection of dreamcast games, but otherwise there's definitely something for every gamer here. Competitively priced used consoles and games, 2 for 1 deals, posters, figurines, heck, even branded candy. A noteworthy downside was that I had to approach the counter to get help, as the employee didn't acknowledge us otherwise and remained behind the counter. Also, games aren't sorted beyond system so you'll definitely be browsing for a little while if you're looking for something in particular. That said, still worth a look-see before hitting the bigger gaming stores in the area.
